Current Situation (7/11/05): Currently, ski conditions are reported as being good at Falls Creek, Australia with a 2 foot base and more snow in the forecast. Click here for information. Speaking of down under, the Snow Farm in New Zealand is now open. In the interim, the Rabid Skier is training for this year's season. Although winter seems to be a long way off, really there are about three to four months left before skiing starts again in this area. Now is the time to start training! 2005 News: Tamarack (near McCall, Idaho) has announced that they will be adding snow making for their cross country trails next year. When installed, Tamarack will be able to open in November. With a little cooperation from the weather they should be capable of six month season. Bogus Basin will have lighted trails available for night skiing next year. This will allow those living in the Boise area to ski after work without wearing headlamps.

| Weather Reports: As western weather reports rarely give the weather in the mountains, it is sometimes difficult to determine what is going on where you want to ski. The weather bureau has an excellent site that allows you to select the exact point of interest and receive the forecast for that area. In the west, this is critical. For example, the weather forecast for Baker City, Oregon doesn't come close to predicting the weather at Anthony Lakes which is 4,000 feet higher than Baker City. Using this site, I was able to obtain the weather forecast for the 7,000 foot elevation near Anthony Lakes instead of the Baker City forecast and then trying to extrapolate that up to the 7,000 foot level. Click here for this site. For local radar, this site is the best. Click here and then click the radar selection. Once the map of the US is visible scroll down to the select view box and select the area you are interested. Anyone wishing to report on their favorite areas may email me at johnwgreene@hotmail.com.
